Boom Coming in Offshore Wind Farms, Report Predicts
According to a recent study from Emerging Energy Research (EER), the offshore wind sector will expand over the next decade and could generate nearly 45GW worldwide by 2020. A quarter of the growth is expected to come in North America and Asia, with Europe representing the rest of the growth.
Based on a combination of assessments of ongoing and planned projects and international interest in those projects, EER predicts that the $10-billion offshore wind energy market will become a $30-billion market during the next 10 years.
So far, Great Britain and Denmark have been the leaders in offshore wind projects, but now the rest of Europe is starting to catch up; the report predicts that in the next five years, Sweden, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium will see serious development. Then the United States and Asia (particularly China and Korea) will follow suit.
