State Representative Calls Vets “Traitors”

October 27, 2009 by · Leave a Comment

Pennsylvania State Representative Daryl Metcalfe called veterans fighting for energy security “traitors.” Now the veterans are running radio ads calling on him to resign.

Metcalfe stated that “As a veteran, I believe that any veteran lending their name to promote the leftist propaganda of global warming and climate change in an effort to control more of the wealth created in our economy through cap and tax type policies, all in the name of national security, is a traitor to the oath he or she took to defend the Constitution of our great nation!”

He continued, “Remember Benedict Arnold before giving credibility to a veteran who uses their service as a means to promote a leftist agenda. Drill Baby Drill!!!”

In response, Operation Free created the ads calling on Metcalfe to resign. Operation Free is a coalition of veteran and security groups, including VoteVets.org, which recently finished a bus tour through 21 states promoting the need for a clean energy policy for the sake of national security. On Friday last week, in a speech on clean energy and innovation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, President Obama commended Operation Free for its ability to focus local attention on the benefits of the clean energy transition in strengthening national security.

The ad includes an Iraq War veteran, Chuck Tyler saying, “Representative Metcalfe, a lot of my friends never made it home from Iraq. Dishonoring us dishonors their memory. We deserve better – and so does Pennsylvania. I’m not a traitor sir. I’m just a veteran doing what’s right to protect my country.”
