    • ]]>     Late last week, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) introduced a bill aimed at getting 10 million new solar rooftop systems and 200,000 new solar hotimages-1 water heating systems installed in the U.S. in the next 10 years.

    The bill would offer rebates for up to half of the cost of new solar-powered systems. The bill has nine co-sponsors, including Environment and Public Works Committee Chair Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Sens. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), Frank Lautenberg (D-NJ), Robert Menendez (D-NJ), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Arlen Specter (D-PA).

    • ]]>     Chicago opened a solar powered electric vehicle charging station in April, and now New York City has followed its lead. 121609charging-station

    Beautiful Earth Group, a sustainable energy company, unveiled New York’s first solar-powered electric vehicle charging station in Brooklyn. It recharges only one type of car – the MINI E – one of the few cars in the world that operates on solar power alone.

    The station is made from decommissioned, recycled shipping containers and it uses no carbon energy. It has a battery bank that can store electricity for on-demand use.
